The Spicy Brain Collective is a social club for neurodivergent folks local to Pittsburgh, PA

I co-created the SBC in October of 2022 with the intention of creating a virtual and in-person community of neurodivergent folks so that we could safely unmask and socialize.

Little did I know that finding a community of autistic people to safely unmask around would be life changing. It has been one of the most healing and validating things I’ve experienced on my late-diagnosis journey so far.

Autistics are pathologized because we don’t conform to allistic modes of communicating and socializing, but we are very good at socializing and communicating with each other. It’s so joyful and freeing to experience.

As of January 2025 we have 200+ members in our discord community and host monthly meetups at low key and sensory friendly venues throughout Pittsburgh’s East Side.

You can find out about events we host via Instagram or the Meetup.com group

If you live in Pittsburgh, and would like to join the discord, please contact me!

What members are saying about the Spicy Brain Collective

The Spicy Brain Collective community is a space where I am able to be my authentic self and experience belonging. We are able to speak openly about our experiences and feel seen and heard by others. It touches on core needs we have as humans to belong not just to ourselves but to a group. Masking and accomodating for the neuro typical expectations of society can be exhausting so having a group that doesn’t require that effort is also a welcome relief.

Spicy Brain Collective has connected me to more friends within my community. It’s offered me a voice and allowed me to feel things that in the past I was unable or not safe enough to feel. The group works very hard to accommodate everyone and include everyone no matter how or where you show up....
It has been a vital part of my life now to have groups like this supporting me. I feel less alone and know that I have a group of people who have a shared experience of how it is to move about a “neurotypical” world. For lack of a better word, I feel less “crazy.”

I loved the craft meetup I attended so, so much. It was validating and encouraging to meet other people like me. I don’t get out of the house much at all, so that was a huge milestone for me. Everyone was so encouraging and positive. Even just seeing their posts, and knowing the meetups are out there to go to, if I feel like I have it in me to go, gives me a sense of community and belonging that I otherwise wouldn’t have. Thank you so much <3
